Metropolitika CF

CF Metropolitika, the 8th release of Stella Project, is an upright handwritten font, something quite rare among the archival material studied. At its core is the signage of the “Μητροπολιτικόν" pastry shop in the center of Athens, particularly expressive, with a very calligraphic feel and connected characters. With few other upright script examples, the font was "invented" and all the characters reconstructed based on this signage. Another characteristic element are the joints between the characters, which makes it look like continuous writing, namely the pen is guided from one letter to another without lifting from the paper. To achieve this hundreds of alternate characters and ligatures were designed from which matching ones are selected automatically as you type.   CF Metropolitika supports Greek Monotonic and Extended Latin character sets as well as a full numbering set. Initially sketches in 2012-13, designed and finalised in 2023-24 by Panos Haratzopoulos. Karolina Knapik assisted in the initial sketches, Tasos Varipatis contributed in the expansion of the character set, the technical support and the addition of opentype features code.
