Yannis Karlopoulos

He was born in 1967 in Thessaloniki. He began his studies at the Graphic Design Department of the Greek Technical University of Athens in 1984. Until then and 1991, when he graduated from the poster-book major with professor T. Katsoulidis, he worked with painters in the field of giant movie posters and Byzantine church frescoes in Greece and Cyprus, at the same time he also attended the seminars of the Photographic Circle. In the period 1991-92, as a graduate scholar of IKY, he continued a postgraduate course in Paris, at Ecole Estienne on digital typography-pagination and type design. He has made lectures and presentations at conferences and schools. At the same time, he deals with the collection of typographic sources (such as typewriters, stencils, etc.), photography and somewhat less with various manual printing techniques. He mainly designs books, magazines, newspapers, artist catalogues, diaries and typefaces. He has cooperated from time to time with the Deste Foundation, YES! hotels and for a short time with K2design and Athens 2004.
He is married to journalist Simela Kolagele and they live with their two children in Ano Petralona, Athens.
